Then there are those times where something isn’t working on your machine and it takes a while to troubleshoot it – that can be very frustrating if you aren’t a sewing machine repair expert (I’m not!). It’s like the times that my quilting machine and I fight – I’ve tried so many different solutions without any consistent answer and the biggest frustration is that I feel like I still don’t know the root cause of the issue and you can’t fix the problem if you don’t know what truly caused it. Times like that require patience.
Often times when I tell people that I sew or quilt, they say “I just don’t have enough patience for sewing” and I think I often forget that it really does require some patience. Sometimes, you can work on a project and everything goes smoothly and it’s great – one neat thing about sewing is how quickly you get to see results. It doesn’t take a lot of sewing before you start to see your project coming together.

In light of my recent obsession with remodeling, upgrading and beautifying our house...for my birthday I asked for gift certificates to get things for the house (big surprise huh?). Thanks to my Dad & Laurie, we were able to get a new chandelier and fan for the landing and stairway. The chandelier is from the same set as our dining room light and I have wanted to buy it and put it up practically ever since we got the dining room light fixture 3 - 4 years ago. Here's the old light fixture that was there:
Once I got that modular storage area finished and made all pretty...it was time for a little closet makeover. Since I took away the actual bookcase I used to have against the back wall, I needed a place to put my reading books. The original bookcase (shown below), got moved to the theater room with both of our college text books. But I wanted to keep my reading books in the quilt room since that's where my reading nook is.
So I was trying to figure out how to hang up all my quilting tools and notions and I saw a picture someone posted using a crib rail and I really liked it.
After I finished my cute little framed canvas/quote, it was clear I needed to finish the decor on the top of the bookshelf. I had the hardest time finding a lamp I liked and the ones I did find were SOO expensive. I was hoping for under $20 but after about ten different stores, I finally just picked one up at Bed Bath & Beyond for $40 that was close to what I wanted. It wasn't exactly what I wanted though so I decided to modify it. Note: if you're going to modify a brand new lamp (or anything), make sure you check to see if it's working BEFORE you do any modifying because you won't be able to return it (fortunately I remembered). Here's the lamp i got:
Like I said before, I wanted to do some reorganizing and decorating in my quilt room and the upstairs in general. In the quilt room, I needed to get rid of anything not functional and make what I kept look prettier. I like my room pretty and orderly - I can't sew or work on anything if it's messy - it drives me insane.
But anyways, one project at a time. I was planning on getting some new bookshelves or cubbies and I knew I would want some piece of art or decoration above them. I saw this on Pinterest and decided I wanted to do a sewing or crafting quote for the wall similar to the one they had made. I’m not sure if it’s from the quilt expo, or pinterest or seeing other people’s homes decorated so nicely but I suddenly got the urge to reorganize and finish decorating the quilt room, landing and guest room. First thing I did was to spend a little time in each area and sketch out what I think I want to change so I can actually start changing things – it’s hard to start decorating anything if you don’t know what you want it to look like.
Last weekend I was going to pick up the whole house and get it back to normal...until I opened the fridge. Yuck. Normally, if something spills I just wipe the shelf. But eventually gunk just builds up and it was time to empty the whole fridge and clean it out. So I spent some time doing that and it came out pretty squeaky clean.
So at my last post it had been 5 days since I posted and I couldn't believe how much time I let go by...now here it is 9 days after that without another post, LOL. Let's start with the end of the Alpha Phi weekend about a week and a half ago. I totally forgot to take a picture of my fingernails I painted and since I didn't have any other pics I figured I better post this one, heehee. I did a red base and then silver tips and then someone suggested I paint a thin white line between the red and silver. But after I did that I wanted rhinestones on my nails. Unfortunately, all the other girls needed help so I only put them on one hand hahaha. I just used a little extra topcoat to secure them and that didn't seem to be quite enough - on all four fingers they fell off within a couple days (only the ones on my thumb stayed on).
While we were at Mary’s waiting for the tile adhesive to set…we watched a LOT of television. More specifically, we watched a lot of HGTV. Seeing all those nice houses and remodeling inspired me to start planning a remodel of our master suite. I say master suite because my remodeling plans would affect the bathroom, closet and office (plus decorating the bedroom). The picture below is an approximate representation of our current downstairs floorplan. The top of the picture is the back of the house and the front door is at the bottom of the picture towards the center. The kitchen and garage are not shown and some other details may be slightly off but it’s pretty close.
